ADOPTION PROCESS

**PREVIOUSLY APPROVED APPLICANTS WITH ACTIVE APPLICATIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR ADOPTIONS PRIOR TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC**

1. SUBMIT AN INITIAL APPLICATION

Apply to adopt a dog from our rescue that you are interested in. Our intial application takes about 5 mins to complete.

2. VET RECORDS SENT FOR REVIEW

Along with your initial application, you will instruct your vet/clinic to send vaccination records, proof of purchase of heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives, and full medical history for all current/previous pets owned over the past 5 years to adoption@manneredmuttsrescue.org

3. INITIAL SCREENING

Once the appropriate medical records have been received, one of our volunteers will screen your application. You will be notified as soon as possible whether or not you can complete the rest of the application and move forward with a home visit.

A review will be conducted of the past 5 years of veterinary records, ensuring any dogs and cats you have owned during that time have been up-to-date on core vaccines (rabies, distemper, leptospirosis), received annual wellness exams, received annual heartworm tests, kept up-to-date on heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives, and (for outdoor cats) up-to-date on the feline leukemia vaccine.

4. FULL APPLICATION APPROVAL OR DENIAL

After reviewing your full application and completing your home visit, your application will either be approved or denied. You will be notified either way. If you have not received an update on your application then it is still under review. Once approved, your application will remain active for 90 days.

5. MEET AND GREET

A rescue representative will get in touch to discuss your needs and our available dogs. If we have dogs that seem like a good match then a meet and greet will be scheduled.

6. FINALIZE ADOPTION

After the meet and greet you can elect to adopt or foster to adopt a dog from us. Each adoption will include 1-2 private lessons with a trainer depending on the dog.

FOSTER TO ADOPT

This program is great for families with young children or other animals that would like a chance to get to know the dog in their home environment prior to finalizing the adoption. Our foster to adopt program is typically 7-10 days and the prospective adopter can finalize the adoption or return the dog at any time during that process.
